When it comes to the soprano part in Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, Christiane Karg is one of the undisputed leading interpreters of our time, having performed this work regularly in recent years with a wide variety of top orchestras and at major festivals—including the Vienna Philharmonic under Andris Nelsons at the Salzburg Festival, the Orchestre de Paris under Klaus Mäkelä, and the Rotterdam Philharmonic under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. In early May, Christiane Karg performed this solo part with another long-standing artistic partner, Daniel Harding, and the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, where she also appeared last year as a soloist in Schumann’s Scenes from Goethe’s Faust. Between the concerts in Rome, the orchestra also performed the same programme as part of the Bologna Festival at the Teatro Manzoni.
Immediately following this, as part of a tour of Spain by the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Christiane Karg performs the final scene from Strauss’s Capriccio in Girona, Barcelona, Madrid, Valencia, and Zaragoza under the baton of Andrés Orozco-Estrada.
