In the first half of this recital, the soprano explores a whole cosmos of lullabies, from the folk melodies of her homeland to ornate movements by Franz Schubert, Edvard Grieg and Franz Liszt. In addition, you will be able to experience that Richard Strauss, known for his great tone poems, was also a diligent song composer. In the second half of the concert, for example, his ‘Mädchenblumen’, composed at the age of 23, about four female characters, will be juxtaposed with songs by the French composer Lili Boulanger, who symbolises a completely different image of women. Devieilhe also honours her fellow countrywomen and their - sometimes unjustly unknown - oeuvre with songs by composers Cécile Chaminade, Germaine Tailleferre and Édith Piaf.
